  1. Welcome to the PROFESSIONAL NUTRITIONIST SHAREWARE tryout version!
  2. ------------------------------------------------------------------
  3. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  4. -------------------
  5.   * An IBM PC or 100% IBM PC compatible computer with a minimum of 2
  6.     Megabytes RAM (SHAREWARE version only requires 1 Megabyte RAM).
  7.   * DOS 5.0 or above.
  8.   * Microsoft Windows 3.1 (OPTIONAL)
  9.   * Hard disk with 3 Megabytes available (SHAREWARE version requires 1.5
  10.     Megabyte of free hard disk space).
  11.   * EGA or VGA video compatibilty
  12.   * A Microsoft Mouse compatible pointing device (required for automated
  13.     demonstrations)
  14.  
  15. IMPORTANT: The PROFESSIONAL NUTRITIONIST is designed to work with a mouse
  16. or other pointing device. The program will run without a mouse installed,
  17. but the user interface is not as efficient to use. Plus, without a mouse
  18. driver installed, you won't see a mouse cursor when running the automated
  19. demonstrations. Therefore, we STRONGLY RECOMMEND that you install a mouse
  20. driver in your CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT file. If you already have a mouse
  21. installed on your system, then you probably already have the required mouse
  22. driver installed. Just run the PROFESSIONAL NUTRITIONIST program, and if
  23. no mouse cursor appears then you need to install a mouse driver. For
  24. instructions on installing the required mouse driver, see the documentation
  25. that came with your mouse or other pointing device.

  27. IMPORTANT: If you plan to run from Microsoft Windows you STILL NEED A DOS
  28.            MOUSE DRIVER installed on your system!

  43.  
  44.     PNINFO.TXT  -  (OPTIONAL) Press release for the Professional
  45.                     Nutritionist program.

  47. INSTALLATION
  48. ------------
  49.   1) Create a directory (call it PN if possible).
  50.   2) Copy the supplied files into the directory you created.
  51.   3) Exit to DOS if you are running from Microsoft Windows
  52.   4) Change to the directory you created.
  53.   5) Type "PNTRY" to decompress the PN tryout version.
  54.   6) (OPTIONAL) Type "PNPDRV" to decompress the printer drivers
  55.   7) Type "PN" to run the Professional Nutritionist program.
  56.   8) Follow on screen prompts to install for Microsoft Windows, so
  57.      you can launch the program from an icon in the program manager.
  58.  
  59.      NOTE: The first time you run PN you will be prompted to confim
  60.      automatic installation for Microsoft Windows. To install for
  61.      Windows at a some later time, type "PN -WIN" from DOS.
  62.  
  63. RUNING DEMONSTRATIONS
  64. ---------------------
  65. The PROFESSIONAL NUTRITIONIST comes with built in demonstration software
  66. to quickly show you what the program can do. These include automated
  67. lessons to get you up to speed using the program a quickly as possible.
  68. As mentioned above, you should have a mouse installed before running these
  69. demonstrations.
  70.  
  71. Type DEMO from the DOS prompt to run the PROFESSIONAL NUTRITIONIST
  72. and with a list of the available demonstrations displayed automatically.
  73. To run a demonstration follow the instructions on screen.
  74.  
  75. You can also access the list of demonstrations through the program's
  76. "Help" menu.
  77.  
  78. It takes about 3/4 hour to run through all the demonstrations and
  79. get setup using the program yourself. Its best then to dive right
  80. in and start using the program. The help system can answer most of
  81. the questions that normally come up.
  82.  
  83. You can pause a demonstration at any time by pressing SPACEBAR or by
  84. right clicking the mouse (NOTE: you may have to wait a few seconds for the
  85. menu to appear in some cases).
  86.  
  87. When you pause a demonstration, the "Playback" menu appears.
  88.  
  89. You can adjust the speed of playback by using the Slower and Faster commands
  90. fromt he "Playback" menu, or by pressing the up and down arrow keys during
  91. a demo. These Slower and Faster commands adjust the demo speed down or up
  92. by 20%.
  93.  
  94. The current playback rate is indicated next to the "Continue" menu item.
  95. Choose "Continue" from the menu to continue running this demonstration.
  96. You also have the option to turn Narrative on or off, and to turn Sound
  97. on or off.

  100. RUNNING THE PROFESSIONAL NUTRITIONIST

  103. To run the PROFESSIONAL NUTRITIONIST, change to the directory where
  104. you have installed the program and type PN.
  105.  
  106. The demonstrations will appear automatically upon startup if you have not
  107. yet saved a default desktop file (named PN.DPN). The default desktop will
  108. load automatically upon startup if it exists.
  109.  
  110. To close the demonstration window click on the the close icon [■] that
  111. appears in the upper left of the window, or use the "Window|Close" menu
  112. command.
  113.  
  114. NOTE: In demonstration mode, you can abort the demonstration, and
  115. take over using the program yourself from any point. Just abort
  116. the demonstration and close the demonstration window by clicking over
  117. the close icon [■] that appears in the upper left of the window. The
  118. program will operate normally from that point on. You may need to hit
  119. the ESC key a few times if you aborted the program while a modal dialog
  120. box was active.

  122. After you do this, to run another demonstration, you'll just
  123. need to choose "Demonstrations" from the "Help" menu.
